The winner of our Magical Competition is Carol Reynolds with her opening chapters of   THE WILD HUNT, a rich and evocative adventure inspired by Welsh legend.

We were so impressed with Carol's writing that as well as giving her the competition prize of a one-to-one critique, we have also signed her up! Skylark Literary is very proud to represent such a talented new children's author.

The Magical Competition

We are delighted to announce an exciting competition for new authors, full of fun and sparkle to brighten these dark winter days!

Skylark Literary is committed to supporting new talent in writing for children, so with this in mind and with Christmas just around the corner, this competition is especially for new, un-agented and unpublished fiction authors who are writing a magical and captivating story for middle-grade (aged 8-12) readers.

We are honoured to have guest judges from some of the UK's top children's publishers who are enthusiastic supporters of great new writing for children and who will help us reach a decision on the eventual winner.

The Guest Judges from Leading UK Children's Publishers

Fiona Kennedy, Managing Director and Publisher, Orion Children's Books & Indigo.

Ben Horslen, Editorial Director, Puffin Fiction.

Venetia Gosling, Publisher Over 6s, Macmillan Children's Books.

These three fabulous guest judges together with Joanna and Amber of Skylark Literary will form the judging panel.

The Prize

The prize will be a one-to-one editorial critique of your finished manuscript by phone, or in person (locations allowing), with Joanna and/or Amber. We will suggest ways in which you could polish and perfect your novel to improve its chances of representation and publication, and seek to answer any queries you may have about the children's publishing industry in general.

The Deadline!

We are looking for a magical middle-grade novel to enchant readers! The deadline for competition entries is Christmas Eve, December 24th 2014. So get your skates on (do you see what we did there?) and CLICK HERE for how to enter together with the full terms and conditions.
