The Marvellous Middle-Grade Competition

to find sparkling and original talent in fiction for children

As part of our agency’s commitment to seek out and support the best writing for young people, we are now on the lookout for outstanding new stories for 8-12-year-old readers. So if you are an un-agented, unpublished writer, working on a jewel of a manuscript, now is your time to shine!

Remember when you were twelve and found a book so gripping you couldn’t put it down – even reading with a torch under your duvet after lights-out? Well, that’s just the kind of marvellous middle-grade story we’re looking for.

The Judges

We are honoured to have leading experts from the UK children's publishing industry as guest judges to help us pick a winner. They are . . .

Kirsty Stansfield, Head of Fiction, Nosy Crow

Lucy Pearse, Senior Editor, Macmillan Children’s Books

Charlotte Eyre, Children’s Editor, The Bookseller

These three champions of great new writing for children will form the judging panel, together with Joanna and Amber of Skylark Literary.

The Prize

The prize will be a one-to-one editorial critique of your finished manuscript by phone, or in person (locations allowing), with Joanna or Amber. We will suggest ways in which you could polish and perfect your novel to improve its chances of representation and publication, and seek to answer any queries you may have about the children's publishing industry in general.

The Deadline

The deadline for competition entries is Christmas Eve, December 24th 2018. So please put some magic and sparkle into our Christmas and send your work our way. CLICK HERE for how to enter, together with the full terms and conditions. See here for our privacy policy.
